Differences Between Cotton and Polyester for DTF Projects

Differences Between Cotton and Polyester for DTF Projects

Today we’re going to talk about the fabrics you could use for DTF printing. With this type of technique, you have a flexible usage window open. It’s not only about the quality of the print you’re going to use, it’s about the fabric you’re applying your design on.

Now, there are always two main options when it comes to customizing apparel in general: cotton and polyester. Both options work with DTF and can bring outstanding results! But then, “Which one should I use?” You may ask. The short and simple answer is that it depends on personal preferences.

Here’s some information about the two fabrics so you can make up your mind easily.

COTTON

Being the most used fabric for custom apparel, cotton will always be a reliable material for you. It’s definitely more comfortable than any other fabric and tends to have a soft touch to the skin. Most people use this material for its light and warm feeling. Cotton has no static effects, making it the best option for underwear. With DTF, cotton needs no preparation beforehand and the designs do not lose color on it.

Best qualities:

  • Soft and durable
  • Light and with high level of breathability
  • Provides excellent printing results
  • Fit for everyone

POLYESTER

Nowadays, polyester works better for most people due to its high elasticity and being wrinkle resistant. This will allow you to avoid any mistake with fabric that does not get in the way while printing. Most athletes prefer this type of clothing. It can easily be worn as swimwear, sportswear, casualwear and more. This material lasts longer and can be flexible after applying a DTF design. Some acids and alkalis have no effect on polyester fabric, making this material resistant to mold and insects.

Best qualities:

  • Wrinkle-resistant
  • It dries quickly
  • Maintains shape
  • Easy stain removal

Since DTF is suitable for more than cotton and polyester (nylon, leather, blends, silk and denim are also options!), you will have to choose what to work with depending on your objective. Remember what you’re using your garment for, when are you wearing it, which design are you using, etc, etc.
